A very common, small seeded perennial grass (with creeping leafy stolons) (loosely tufted)
Also known as Rough Blue-grass or Rough Meadow-grass
Fairly course leaves green or purplish with an attractive purple/red/green seed head
Can tolerate both dry and wet soils 
Found naturally in the UK in every county! Found in meadows, pastures, lowlands, wasteland, cultivated land, pond/shade/river margins, moist soils, heavier soils and sometimes shaded areas. 
Used in amenity meadow mixtures, with wildflower seed mixtures and in the past in agricultural seed mixtures.
Palatable to stock and useful in hay seed mixtures. Fairly low growing, bottom grass in the sward.
